and , oh boy , as soon as his eyes met the older vampire's , he looked like the cat who ate the canary . ㅤ" unhappy with tonight's performance , maître ? " ㅤasked santiago , furrowing his brow in performative ( perhaps even mocking ) concern . ㅤ" i could practically feel you sssseeething up in your cabin . " ㅤthe englishman raised both hands in surrender . ㅤ" i , myself , am impartial to our new rising star ! but it just breaks my heart to think that you have forced both yourself and the audience to endure poor acting for ... " ㅤhe fluttered his lashes , pretending to be searching for the word in the depths of his mind . when he spoke next , santiago looked as if he had had a good whiff of a big old pile of bull shit . ㅤ" ... love , is it ? "

the actor suddenly pushed himself off the wall and stepped closer to the maître ; a handsome american comes along and , suddenly , the rules that ended his master's life so swiftly could be bent and ignored ... was that it then ? BEAUTY TRIUMPHS OVER DUTY ? then why had santiago not been spared from humiliation and punishment ? ㅤ─ ㅤ WAS HE NOT PRETTY ENOUGH ? ㅤ" will he be taking you down the bayou to meet ma 'n' pa soon ? "ㅤ his voice had changed , perfectly mimicking louis' accent and pitch . santiago's smile widened with cruel amusement . ㅤ" thinkin' 'bout sittin' back 'n' soakin' 'em feet in swamp water for a while ? that why that lil' lady is centre stage now ? so you can get a better taste of that yankee di ㅤ─ ㅤ" ㅤsuddenly A FLAME IS CONJURED , burning bright and red between the two of them .

it caused santiago to stagger backwards , his green eyes wide and momentarily terrified only to find that that sudden hot flash had not burned any inch of him ㅤ─ ㅤ instead , it had lit the end of his cigarette . he no longer smiled when he looked back at armand .
